Week 11 already? This NFL season is moving faster than DeSean Jackson after a Red Bull.
The Eagles are playing their second away game in a row, this time in Chicago against the equally inconsistent Bears. I imagine Chicago fans feel like Eagles fans circa 2002-2003, when we had a star in McNabb who was throwing to one of the worst receiving corps ever.
Thankfully we don’t have to deal with that anymore. What IS incredibly old is the Eagles inability to gain one yard on third down. Last week, a pass interference call gave us a 1st and goal at the one – three downs later when the field goal unit came out, every single Eagles fan in the world fought the urge to throw the heaviest thing within arms reach directly at the television. I imagine a few fans actually did. Andy and Marty, you owe us a personal apology for all the friendships that were strained and $1500 TV repair bills at the bar.
It almost appears that they may be WORSE on 3rd and 1 than last year – and that’s with a new blocking tight end and ACTUAL fullback(not Klecko or Hunt). It’s giving me a headache just considering that.
Donovan has come out and stated that this week’s game is a “must-win”. He’s essentially right, the Eagles can’t afford to lose any ground in the NFC East. Thankfully the Cowboys played last week’s game against Green Bay with the intensity of a tickle fight, otherwise we’d be two games out right now, plus the head-to-head loss.
We know what the key to beating the Bears is – stop the run, keep pressure on Cutler. Chicago’s defense has been beat up all season, so there is no excuse for not putting up points, especially if we can create a few turnovers.
Eagles get the win this week, and before week 12, Torrance Small and James Thrash get signed by the Bears to upgrade their receivers.
On to the rest of the league:
Washington Redskins (3-6) at Dallas Cowboys (6-3) – It saddens me a bit to see Washington floundering as it is. In the 80’s and 90’s, The NFC East was a toss up. Ever since Joe Gibbs left the first time, the Redskins haven’t been much of a threat. This year’s team has a great defense, but they’re gonna have to get several turnovers in order to have a chance in Dallas. It’s possible, but certainly not probable.
Pick: Dallas
San Francisco 49ers (4-5) at Green Bay Packers (5-4) – Aaron Rogers clearly has the tools to be a Pro Bowl quarterback for several years to come. The problem is, he’s less comfortable in the pocket than Tim Hardaway would be at OutFest. His line is absolutely porous. The 49ers seem to still be discovering how to best run their offense since switching quarterbacks three games ago. After a Green Bay had a pretty weak offensive display against Dallas last week, I see a bit of a shootout here.
Pick: Green Bay
Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3) at Kansas City Chiefs (2-7) – The Steelers will be playing the role of the bowling ball, the Chiefs – the pins.
Pick: Pittsburgh
Seattle Seahawks (3-6) at Minnesota Vikings (8-1) - I just read on ESPN that Brad Childress received a contract extension. This blows my mind. Brad Childress is as close as you can get to a literal Andy Reid. Favre has been playing within himself and is essentially a coach on the field, and everyone knows AP is the hands down #1 running back in the league. If this team had someone like say, Mike Shanahan at the helm? Then I’d be worried about them doing post-season damage. They beat Seattle this week, but don’t expect too much from the Vikes come post-season time.
Pick: Minnesota
Cleveland Browns (1-8) at Detroit Lions (1-8) - Ahh, the housework special of the week. Start thinking now what you would rather be doing than wasting 3 hours watching this. Scrubbing the shower? Raking those leaves?
No one really cares who wins, but can you start wondering about where they’ll draft, at least.
Pick: Detroit
Atlanta Falcons (5-4) at New York Giants (5-4) – At 5-4, the Falcons are sort of the southern version of the Eagles. High expectations, questionable record. After a hot start, the Giants look as if they’ve lost their way – even the defense seems to be falling apart. Falcons pull the slight upset this week.
Pick: Atlanta
New Orleans Saints (9-0) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8) – The Saints are primed for a loss. They haven’t dominated like they did the first 5 weeks of the season, fortunately – they’re playing the Bucs. Freeman has looked pretty good at QB thus far into his NFL career – so this game might be closer than you think.
Pick: New Orleans
Buffalo Bills (3-6) at Jacksonville Jaguars (5-4) – The Bills have a new coach this week…but they’re still the Bills. Jags get this one at home easy.
Pick: Jacksonville
Indianapolis Colts (9-0) at Baltimore Ravens (5-4) - Peyton Manning makes being an NFL quarterback look easy sometimes. He’s also on 90% of television commercials. I can’t wait until he releases a rap album. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it was better than Allen Iverson’s, Roy Jones’, and Ron Artest’s.
That being said, this is my upset pick of the week. The Ravens need to keep winning at 5-4, and the Colts have to lose a game eventually. Ray Rice carries this team to a close win.
Pick: Baltimore
Cincinnati Bengals (7-2) at Oakland Raiders (2-7) - I may not pick the Raiders again until Al Davis dies. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if he just inserted his brain unto a younger body and kept on living. I almost think Larry Johnson pulled a fast one on everybody here…he used some stupid twitter comments to get himself let go by a terrible team…and now he’s on a playoff contender. Start looking for ridiculous comments from players like Kellen Winslow, Calvin Johnson, and Clinton Portis.
Pick: Bengals
San Diego Chargers (6-3) at Denver Broncos (6-3) - Two teams with equal records, but seemingly going in opposite directions. To further that point, Chris Simms will be getting his first start in three years this week in place of the injured Kyle Orton. Chargers complete the leapfrog over the Broncos here and get the win.
Pick: Chargers
Arizona Cardinals (6-3) at St. Louis Rams (1-8) - Anytime you have someone play the Rams, expect a big fantasy scoring day. Look for Kurt Warner to throw touchdown passes to Fitzgerald, Boldin, Breston, and the guy selling peanuts.
Pick: Arizona
New York Jets (4-5) at New England Patriots (6-3) -
Patriots lost a terrible game Sunday night – they can either take that loss and press too hard this week, or play aggressive and attempt to put the game away. This team’s mature enough to shake it off and beat the young Jets, especially with revenge being a factor. Also, is anyone else baffled by the fact that Junior Seau is STILL playing productively? I could’ve sworn this guy played for Egypt vs. Israel in the Pharaoh Bowl.
Pick: New England
Tennessee Titans (3-6) at Houston Texans (5-4)
Hey, whaddya know? Looks like Vince Young is ready to play quarterback in the NFL after all. This game will teach us a lot about the Texans as well. Are they ready for prime time, or are they still stuck on the appetizer menu in between the quesadillas and the Detroit Lions?
Pick: Texans
Enjoy your NFL sunday, peoples. What are your picks for this weekend?

“Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3) at Kansas City Chiefs (2-7) – The Steelers will be playing the role of the bowling ball, the Chiefs – the pins.”
Chiefs were more like the gutter.
